well due to the lack of responses on another forum that im registerd to, i want to try my luck with this one. Anyway, i went to my LFS the other day and once again saw a majestic angelfish that i just cant resist. I have been reading that it may nip at zoos, leathers, and LPS. i also understand that this angelfish is the least out of the species that will nip, im looking for some advice from anyone who knows more on this situation. thank you

What kind of corals do you have in your tank?
I kinda had the same question you had and did some research. I turned out about 8-9 out of 10 people who've kept majestic angel had the fish eaten their corals. Out of the little number of people who successfully kept them in their reefs, most of their corals were sps. It does come down to the individual fish though. A well-fed fish less likely have to find other food source, in this case, the corals in your tank.
Good luck :) You might be lucky and get one that doesn't bother corals, who knows :)

I love to have one in my tank, but I heard many bad experiences with them. Zoo, LPS are most victim.
I wouldn't recommend it for reef tank.

I agree with Daniel. They do best in FOWLER due to the stress they cause on us in reef tanks! You could probably try another type of angel and try to get it acclimated to eating JUST prepared usually frozen food. Keep it in a QT for awhile and then put a cheap coral in there and see if it pecks at it.

I am currently preparing to add an angel to my tank so I am trying my best to make it so I dont have to take it out later on! lol

If you search reefkeeping magazine over at RC there was a tank of the month SPS tank with a Majestic Angel

Nevertheless make sure the Majestic is eating at the LFS before you purchase it.

sounds like i shouldnt attempt this, i have alot of green star polyps, some rics, alot of zoos, monipora, a very large umbrella leather, and some chalice's. That fish is just toooo nice not to have. what do you guys think about doing an all sps tank, you think the angelfish will nip at the polyps that extend out of the monis and acros.

A lot of people have kept this fish and he didn't touch any coral for months or up to a year and they thought they've got a reef safe majestic. But 1 day he just turn bad for a reason, you'll just never know. It's the matter of luck bro.

the only thing im worried about on trying my luck is that these fish are 180 dollars and i dont have another tank to put it in, i have a 210 gal reef tank and a 60 gal QT, if the fish doesnt work out then i would have to sell it for dirt cheap to get rid of it. Decisions, Decisions

my other question being, do you think if i kept it well fed that it will not bother any of my corals, ive read that if you keep up on feeding that they might pick at coral but more along the lines of trimming things back rather than devistating. I appreciate all the comments

I have a large one in my SPS tank. Does fine with SPS, loves chalices, brains, zoas. They are great Reef Tank pets if you choose the right reef tank to put them in.
