i went over to a guys house today to pick up some more live rock and he had a 90g cube that he de-rimed and silicon glass triangles to the corners. i asked him if he has had any problems and he told me he has had this tank up and running for the past 7 years without a single problem.

i am contemplating doing the same, but wanted some input if this was safe or not.

example i found on NR:

It depends on the thickness of your glass. Does you tank have any bracing currently? The plastic trim is merely that, does not really add much structure.

Really depends on the glass thickness, height and gallons the tank is holding. Less gallons thicker glass and shallow would be safer. What is the size and gallons of the tank you want to de trim?
