I am thinking about switching from LEDs to M/H. I have never run a M/H it's always been T5's or LEDs and I am not very familiar with the pros and cons of the two styles of bulbs. Does one last longer than the other? Does one burn brighter? Also, what is the more popular bulb color? I would like to add more blue to my tank as currently I am running AI SOL whites with 2 ATI blu+ and 2 ATI purple+ and the white LED's kill most of the blue. The reason for the change is I am not at all happy with the colors from my LEDs. The growth is good, but the colors are just meh in my sps reef.
Thanks

I have (2) 250 watt hqi Metal Halides on my 150 and run the Phoenix 14k blubs in mine and it gives a pretty good color balance of both white and blue ... going to Halides you will most likely need a chiller as well if you dont already have one ...

I'm running the same setup on my 60 gal. My coral love it. Either way you will be happy.

My Tank Build

I say it's all what u like. I like both to be honest. The last few years I've switched back and forth. With mogul u can find more verity of bulbs. But nothing I worse then coming home to a half nuked tank cus a fish splashed and the outer glass on a single ended bulb shattered, and every thing got UV burned. Happened twice to me.
For I've grown fund of double ended bulbs cus they seem easier to replace. In most cases slide a peace of glass snap out old bulb, snap in new, wipe with alcohol done. No screwing (not saying screwing is bad, id rather save my screwing for something I mean someone else).

I really like the look of 20k bulbs, a nice crisp blue. Know I've noticed with 20k compared to 14k I lost growth, but colors looked nicer. I know a lot of reefers say XM bulbs are junk, but I ran them for years and loved them.

All MH bulbs are pretty much rated around 10,000 hours of life.

I'm hoping to not have to run a chiller. The outside temp at my house rarely breaks 75 so my house stays pretty cool. Do you think one 250 watt along with my t5's will be enough? the 4 T5's are 24watt each. The tank is a 90 gal corner bow front I bought from Tony (Reefplanet) 2 years ago.

go with the mogul for more bulb choice but everyone and their mom uses mogul so they can run 20k radiums so throw the more bulb choice out the door.
