Hey guys,

So I'm on day 6 of my cycle and since Day 3 I can't seem to shake these bubbles. I'm cycling using the Red Sea Reef Mature Kit.

I have a Nano Cube 28 and in the back baffles I'm running:

- JBJ Protein skimmer at full blast (That's the only way to get good bubbles)
- the media bask has no media just a sponge (Should I be adding my purigen and chemipure or should I wait for the cycle to end?)

Halp!

Slow down a bit it takes time

I figured it takes time and I've read that bubbles are normal, but holy hell is there a lot of them. I've had tanks in the past but they were always pretty established and never had a micro bubble explosion like this. This is the first tank that I've started from scratch.

So you're saying I shouldn't add the chemipure or purigen yet? Just let it run with nothing as I've been doing?

Chemical media won't do anything for micro bubbles. Neither will the nitrogen cycle. The bubbles are being produced by either the skimmer or the return pump. If that little skimmer is brand new, it will need to break in first. Most skimmer will stop producing too many bubbles once they are broken in. Just to check though, is the return pump completely submerged, as in, not sucking any air? Is the skimmer in the correct chamber for it?

I see

Yes the return pumps are fully submerged and not sucking air and I placed the skimmer in the left chamber which is where all the sites say to put it in. On another note, I kept moving the sponges where the pumps are because I thought maybe the water was dropping to hard. But now its a soft drop and still, bubbles everywhere :).

Thanks for checking

The skimmer doesn't have to be on during tue cycle period. Maybe turn it on towards the end of the cycle.

I figured out the problem. Although my pumps were submersed more than 4 inches, it appears they needed more water on top. So I added another 2 inches of water, and HAZZA! No more explosion. Yes there are still bubbles but a normal amount, not a cloud of them.
