i have a few monti cap frags (idaho grape and purple rim) from a local guy that i bought several weeks ago. i had to prop them myself and since then they've all bleached pretty bad. some of them even have algae growing on them.

these are the readings from my api testers

sg 1.026
nitrate 0
alk 9
calc 500
ph 9

i know it doesn't mean a whole lot, but the only other corals in there are a hammer and florida ric, both of which are doing well. livestock/inverts are all healthy as well.

should i just throw these frags out?

About a year ago I accidentally switched a light on and didnt put it back on its cycle. It stayed on for 2 weeks straight before I noticed it had stayed on the entire time. I was wondering super amounts of algae were growing in that tank a a nice colony of orange cap had bleached white!

Once I adjusted the timer I left the cap in there. It was all white. After a few months some of it colored back up and within 6 months most of it was back. I was amazed. Never give up lol!

hah! seems like patience did you well. there are 3 frags. 2 of them have bits that still have color. i'm thinking i'll just frag it again and throw the rest out.

i threw out 2 of the bleached frags. one of them still has patches of polyps that have color and are starting to encrust over the dead spots.
