Im upgrading to a new tank today! now my question is, the tank im picking up is already established and has the same Carib Sea Aragonite Reef Sand as I do. Now my question is how would i go about adding the sand to the same tank? i always hear you dont want to mix up your sand cuz of toxins being released.

nothing good can come from stirring the sand. I would remove it and wash it completely before adding it back into any tank.

Washing it will probably kill off anything live and create a small cycle depending on how much liverock and established water your using, but its better to be safe.

I recently upgraded as well and I decided to buy all new sand.

I'd wash the sand in RO really good until the rinse water looks clean. If you're going to add that sand to an established tank then you're going to most likely have a cloudy tank when done. Turkey baste your LR and run a sock for a day to clear it up.

Toss some bacteria in a bottle and fresh carbon to keep the mini cycle at bay. I always do it when making any major changes to sand, tank, or LR
