I love achilles tangs and have beeeen wanting to try multiple achilles for a while now. So experiment started December 17 2015. I added 4 achilles and a hybrid achilles. So for my experiment I added a wp60 to the already existing 2 wp60s and a wp40. I also added 3 yellow tangs, gold rim tang and powder blue tang as temporary fish. Lastly I placed extra nori on the stick and fed the tank small amounts of food roughly 6 to 8 times a day. Almost instantly I saw it wasn't going to work out after the first 24 Ish hours. I removed the hybrid achilles which was the biggest instigator and I also removed one of the achilles tangs. Then after about a week the achilles tangs seemed to ignore everyone else and only went after each other and not as badly so I removed the gold rim and powder blue tang. I'm about to remove the yellow tangs. I don't want to claim victory just yet because there is still aggression but has definitely subsided quite a bit. They do have a few battle scratches but at least now can swim near each other without necessarily trying to rip each to shreds every time. I hope I can keep these three and hopefully can upgrade the tank later this year.

I think your approach was extremely novel and clever. And in particular that you had the means of removing a problematic fish is outstanding. Probably everyone on this forum would love one Achilles, and you may end up with a school or shoal or whatever it's called. I would like to add my name to the list however, if you have another mean Achilles and remove it, I would love it.

I hope your Achilles all gel together. Very cool.

good luck w/ the experiment. Hopefully they all do great but in my experience, they may get progressively more aggressive as they grow. I currently have 6 tangs in a 300 and I had to remove a desjardini who started nice and as the fish grew became the biggest badass (also the biggest fish) in a tang with PBT, achilles and a purple. Had to fish him out and find him a new home. The rest of the fish are behaving for years.

Thanks! I hope I can keep my little trio. Will post another video update in perhaps a month or so let's see how it plays out. If you are really interested in getting an achilles though subscribe to my Loveland Fish Sales thread. I haven't brought more fish in like two weeks simply because I'll be updating my divided tank setup in bit and don't want to be overstocked when I'm moving things around. Subscribe here and on youtube so you don't miss a new arrival sale or tank update

Nice, what size is your tank?

225, 72x30x24 and hopefully an upgrade some time this year if not by the next

Nice I love it. One out but got to keep the rest and in my opinion you got to keep the nicer ones . I totally get that though. The first time I stocked my tank I had an achilles, black tang, blonde naso, Lt tang, chevron, vlamangi and moorish idol. Got most of them fairly small. Once they got about the 4 Ish inches each or so I started seeing the aggression really pop. Hopefully doesn't turn out to be the case with these three

Yeah, the gladiator made it lol. One died a month in, death looked like stress more than anything. The other two were fine for some time chases here and there but nothing major, until I decided to add more fish. When I added more fish both hardly swam and we're more concerned about taking care of their territories until the day came that their little chases back and forth turned into one no longer defending only evading... he just gave up and wouldn't leave the rock work. I tried multiple times to pull one out with a trap /net moved rocks etc but both were jammed in there pretty well, one hiding and the other next to him determined to kill em. I feel if maybe I had a different alpha achilles it may have been different but won't try again unless I have a bigger tank. I might just sell the gladiator a hole though considering he's a bit too bossy with EVERYONE and try another achilles and hope for a notch or two lower on the temperament.
