Hi,

My clown fish got a scratch on the side. The blue neon goby has been eating off the white stuff on the wound, but now the wound is getting bigger, (like 1x2 mm) and shows the meat underneath the skin. What should I do?
The clown is still eating and looks happy, but i am not sure for how long

Thank you

They got ick once in a while but the neon goby has been doing good job of eating that off. The would has been there for like 3 weeks already. The goby keeps ripping off the skin I think

No offence but if you get ick every once in a while (depending on how long that is) I would say you have a bit too much stress in your tank, especially for clowns to get it. I sounds like it got a small cut, but because of the stress it had trouble healing and got infected.

clown fish

None taken. That is why I posted the question here. I do water change every 2 weeks and activated carbon change every month. Water test show some nitrate, but acceptable level and none for the nitrite. Other parameters are ok also.
The tank is only 6 gallons and I have 2 clowns and 2 blue neon gobies. I change more than 1 gal every 2 weeks so that is like 25% water change every 2 weeks.

Bigger tank? more water change? I am looking for solutions.

I would say you need at least a 12 gallon tank for that number of fish. As far as water changes at least 1-1.5 gallons a week. Preferably maybe half a gallon every other day. What do you have as far as filtration? How many pounds of rock and sand? Anything that is sharp in the tank? What types of clowns? Any fighting between any of the fish?

I am planning to move them to a 12 gal tank, but I am waiting until summer. They are onyx clown, but mine do not have much black so they might be false percula. I have about 8-10 lbs of rock and half inch of sand (10LBS). The clowns are not fighting. They look and act like a pair, so fighting is not the issue here. I think the main reason was the dirty water before. The gobies were eating off the ick and now the white part of the skin. I cannot take the gobies out. I guess I will need to move the fish to the bigger tank faster and while doing that separate the clowns from the gobies until the wound heals completely.

Did any of the clowns ever go into the filter? Get stuck between a rock? I really think this is some type of cut that got infected. What are the water parameters? I would say to soak the food in Selcon.

Maybe I should try the Selcon like you suggested.
The water is OK now and has been for 1.5 week. I have seen the water worse for this tank

Update:
the big one is now heal, but the small one is getting a small rip just like the big one and of course the goby is picking on that wound too. I have 4 fish in that tank. The 2 blue neon gobies just have a bunch of babies hatched this morning. I guess the migration has to wait. These little guys won't make it because as soon as they got some color, the clowns will finish them all. In the 6 gal tank, there is not much room to run. Beside, there is not food for them anyway.....

You should raise those neon gobies! That would be really cool. I am sure you could find a lot of people on this forum who would buy from you.

I don't think so. It will cost more than what I can sell for. Those goby's fries were gone within 30 minutes to the filter and that was the end of it. I think I need to get rid of 1 of them so they won't mate again. They spit the sands every where when the eggs hatched
