It seems like everybody nowdays is selling D-D salt for a pretty good price these days. So I decided to give it a shot. My first experience came in the first 30-seconds while I was carrying it out of the LFS, the plastic handle broke and it came crashing down. I went to get another bucket and those buckets handles were already broken too. Next I get home and the lid is a P.I.T.A. to get off unless you take some cutters and cut from slot to slot. The positive about this salt is that parameters tested out good:
Cal=420-Saliert
Alk=8.5-Elos
Mag=1400-Elos
However, this stuff is very dirty. It seems to leave a brown residue in my mixing container. It makes my mixing container, pump and heater filthy. The picture below shows a white paper towel after wiping down the mixing container after making D-D saltmix. Like I said before, the parameters test out good and I have had no problems with it excpet for the "dirt" it leaves behind. Well, it also doesn't completely dissolve the way which TMPR does and it is a pain to carry the bucket with no handle. However, it tests higher for the big 3 than the TMPR and is cheaper than TMPR.
What I have decided to do for my next bucket of saltmix is try Coralife. Yes Coralife, just take a look at the totm on RC for March. That is the best tank I have ever seen and he uses Coralife salt. And the best part is you can have a bucket of it shipped from DFS to your front doorstep for $50, it doesn't get much more convenient than that.

yeah the buckets do suck... i didn't have much problem with the lid... what i do though is just leave the big bucket in the room and use a small 20lb bucket of red sea and fill it up with DD... that way i don't have to move the bucket around and struggle as much...

great write up... i never notice the dirt in the container... i'll check next time... i remember crazydante talking about it leaving a film on his koralia and stuff...
