My main question is, can swim bladder disease be transmitted from fish to fish?

I have a betta, pretty old, than has recently developed an enlarged swim bladder. I'm almost certain it's due to recent overfeeding. I had no idea they were prone to this and over eating.
I have a new betta arriving this week and was planning on putting them together in a divided tank. The new betta was a little pricey, just fyi.

Is it safe to put them in the same tank, or can SBD be spread? I will be trying to feed the sick one peas for the next few days, but I don't plan on anything further at the moment since he is rather old and I don't want to start dumping a ton of meds in the tank that won't help.

I would stop feeding the fish , keep water clean and warm and put a mirror so he can exercise and may poop out.
Pea is good food but make sure it cooked and fine chopped. If you have aquarium salt, then put it in as well.
I dont think they are infected, but you can separate them to be sure.

I stopped feeding now that I know what the problem is, and have done some reading. I read on wetwebmedia to add some epsom salt, which I just did. It says to feed peas to clear up constipation, which i'll be doing now. I won't have the new betta until Thursday, so I just want to find out if I should keep them in separate tanks, or if they are fine to go together?

Blaire, i would wait couple day before feeding again. Undigested food still there.
Is divider is black or clear? I used to keep real fighter and not advice to leave them see each other for long period of time. It can really damage their mouth.

The divider is clear. However they aren't plakats or even regular bettas. Both are Halfmoons. They're typically not very aggressive. A few years ago my last 2 ended up on the same side of the tank while I was gone. They ended up being friends and never fought, both males lol.

You got gentle ones. Mine will chase other around. Halfmoon, double tail.

Look like overfeed than bladder problem. He is floated little bit on the side?

Yeah, definitely bloated and floating at the top since his belly swelled. Normally he sleeps at the bottom behind the plants, but not now. I think the best option is to keep fasting and only offer peas until he digests everything. What do you think?

That is good plan.
