Hey everyone
Okay so I'm planning on making this tank into a reef/mixed reef tank
I'm new to the saltwater side & I'm sure it can pretty difficult to start off with this type of tank but my mind is kinda made up
But I do have a lot of patience so that's a +1 lol
Okay so the tank dimensions are 16"x16"x16"
I already have a light http://www.aquaillumination.com/nano/specs.html
& would like to know what I can keep with it
I want to focus on colorful mushrooms, coral & anemones (have no idea of species common names)
But the fauna i plan to keep is a pair of B&W clown
A mandarin goby
& a blue dot jawfish
Hopefully they're compatible?
& still looking into the inverts

I would like to know what I need to get the tank running as in the equipment.

Might need another stand to fit the equipment?

All input is appreciated
Thanks :)

Skip the Mandarin goby and the blue spotted jawfish unless you plan to run a chiller on your tank and/or plan to run the temperature in the low's (below 78)

Well since those are the ones I plan on having then a chiller is what I need
I plan on keeping the tank indoors & house is always around the mid 70's 75-77

Anyone have a link to where I can find all the common names for the mushrooms, polyps, coral & all that stuff?
Google zoaid.com it has a data base of most zoas out there! If that doesnt work I think it might be called coralpedia as well. And if you plan on getting the madarin I would wait at least 6 months until you have an established pod population, or find one that eats frozen foods.

The mandarin is a great choice. The only issue is keeping them fat and happy. I killed three because I couldn't feed them enough. It may be that I am a bad care giver but mandarins are difficult. A refugium is a good idea. The anemones may also be a challenge for an unseasoned tank. Again, killed a few to know the need for stability. Mushrooms have been a snap. Most corals have also been no problem. Keeping your magnesium, calcium, and alkalinity stable will go a long way to keeping things alive. Overstocking fish will raise nitrates and phosphates so be cautious. Good luck.

Yeah I really love how the Mandarin looks
I'm thinking of getting all the equipment then have the tank running for a couple of months with live rock & add whatever is the hardiest & easiest to keep in there for a while before I add any of the more delicate stock

I think I might need a bigger stand to fit a refugium & sump under there
Need to measure the inside of the stand

Just get a yellow clown goby for now, I love mine. He is my first, and only saltwater fish atm.
Can't wait to set up your ADA tank and deck the thing out. I'm using a mr aqua 17.4 for my sump haha

Imo, just setup the tank with the clown pair and load up the fuge and sump with a good pod population just in case. By the time you get your mandarin, you should have a big enough population to last it several months while you begin the task in trying to convert it to frozen. To raise your chances, buy an ORA mandarin and feed frozen to it several yomes a day in small portions. Just my opinion!
