I have been battling a lot of green hair algae lately and as it’s starting to finally look like I’m beating it I have run into a new issue. Bubble algae is starting to multiply at an alarming rate! It’s nearly on all my rocks and starting to cluster more and more. Currently I have my fish out of the tank to treat for ick and none of them would eat the stuff that I know of anyways! What are your preferred methods of beating bubble algae?

thanks in advance

Yup, manual removal is the fastest and most effective. Some emeralds crabs if you're lucky, will mow it down too.

I used reef flux and it killed mine but can’t say it will
Work in your system but not a bad chemical way of getting rid of it

The easiest way I found to do manual removal was to use a siphon. Run a 1/2" inch id hose down to your filter sock in your sump, you may want to clamp it or zip-tie it so it doesn't fall out. The hose needs to be long enough to reach down to the bottom/ back of your tank without pulling it out of your sock below. For bubble algae I cut the end off at a 45 degree angle so I can dislodge bubbles in the rock work. Start the siphon by putting it up to your return nozzle. You may have to pause depending on your return pump flow so you don't overflow your sump. If it plugs up, try holding it up to your return nozzle to flush them out. When your done change out the sock.

Also having an outbreak of bubble algae. Been battling one algae after another since I started my first reef tank. Diatom>byopsis>hair algae>cyanobacteria and now currently have dinos and bubble algae. Haven't been able to just sit back and enjoy my reef tank.

The most important is don't pop any of them in the tank. Remove it outside and rinse well before place rock/ corals back in the tank
I used to subscribe to that, not sure now.. on one of the reef builders pod cast the point was made that what do emerald crabs do when they eat them? Be a large emerald crab.... :)

You are at an imbalance. I’d dose bacteria again like tank is new and look into red field ratio.

Only way to get rid of algaes is to get something that eats the algae.

Even on the reef where conditions are ideal there are patches of algae protected by damsels. That is the only place algae grows. Why? Because the reef fish are eating the rest of the algae.

Dropping nutrients might help, I like vodka dosing for it, but to rid yourself of it, you need to get something that eats it.

If the problem is bad I would do at least 1 emerald crab per ten gallons.

Reefcleaners.org has a gaurentee that their crabs will eat it.
