I cycled my tank 2 months ago and started to notice quite a few Copepods / amphipods.
After I added this frag, which I dipped and shook for roughly 10 minutes. I started to notice after a few days that I started to get these little balls on the glass that seem to be held down by little "support" strands. I'm not sure if these are aiptasias in the making or some other sort of pod. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. image.jpg image.jpg

Sorry for shitty iPhone pictures, but the picture of the frag you can tell there is something else on the frag disc with the polyps.
On the glass I know that most of the little specs are pods but the circles with the strands are what I think could possibly be aiptasias.

Not sure on your first pic... aiptasia don't usually attach in that fashion... looks more like a soft coral of some kind. Can you get a better picture?

Your second pic are called Colonial Hydroids.

I'll try and get a better picture, they're in a bit of a high flow area so they move around a lot. But what are colonial hydroids?

the first pic is not aptasia. its some kind of hydroid as well. Not sure actually but not a feather duster. I just recently found a bunch on my clam. the shell was soft on mine and easily scraped off which i did out of water.

The things on the glass are definitely hydroids. I've had two blooms, when I set up my first tank and now again after upgrading. They're annoying because they eat pods; I dumped a bunch of tigger pods in yesterday and the hydroids had a field day. Both times they've followed hot on the heels of the initial pod bloom. In my first tank they did eventually mostly go away, they seem to be related to food supply. Since the OP just cycled his tank 2 months ago IME this is the initial bloom and not necessarily because of the frag.

I hate those little bastards though. :p

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping that a few peppermint shrimp will take care of this for me. If not I might have to try a blunt end sea hair. Any one try either of these two creatures? Or any creature? Any help would be appreciated

I had two peppermints but I am not sure whether they ate them. My royal gramma would pick them off the glass sometimes.

Okay thanks again. I'm going to try 3 or 4 peppermint shrimp for my 55 gallon cube. Hopefully they go for them, they are all over my glass, probably a few hundred.
