I just took a self taught google search crash course on plumbing over the weekend before I placed order online for plumbing parts with Black Friday discounts.

never had a sump or plumbed anything in my life except for some lawn sprinkler heads.

Now I'm just very inexperienced and clueless instead of absolutely clueless.
Need someone who can help me plumb my tank properly.
Any referrals or tips?
still unsure about flex PVC vs hard PVC.
I'm having a tough time figuring out how to plumb a return through the overflow box.

Your a little far from me in HB, but trust me, with a little planning, review, and measuring, you will be fine! I'm sure many more will offer their help, but I plumbed my 120 gallon system to my sump (36 x 18 x 18) with no issues. Don't mind saying that I have a lot of pride in that project and the planning and plumbing was one of the best parts!

As for tips, I found that doing a scale drawing showing your tank, the overflow box and return holes and where your sump will sit in your stand will at least give you an idea of some of the angles you may need to create. I must of done 10 - 15 drawings, using this website and other's I found on the web, was extremely helpful. I over bought the parts.

For more tips, you should probably provide a little more information like where is your overflow? What system will you be using? Herbie, Bean, Durso? Where will your return pump be placed? Will you have reactors that you plan to plumb into your system, if so, how? You can definitely find a lot of this information and make some decision based on your space, your experience, and your budget.

Good luck, and know that you have found a really valuable resource on this site!

I am encouraged Mike. I am in HB. Planning to build a reef 180 after many years out of the hobby. I have been planning to build a stand in a craftsman style, yet recently have been reading about steel skinned stands. I have considered finding someone to plumb it but I hear I can do it. Will look to you for more advice when the Time comes.
