Their blood is blue and used for medical purposes, can't think of what. Something had to do with penicillin test or something. This species is a fossil like what said above and their blood helped save thousands of lives.

I thought I remembered seeing that it cured something or treated cancer. But I know it is saving lives.

Yes they are used for cancer and other illnesses they are more effective than our white blood cells.
