Hi, I just got a new clam.... the old one died overnight.... no signs of sickness, weird!

Anyway, I picked out this beautiful teal clam at the lfs, brought it home, and it looks royal blue under my leds. My question is how do you bring out the teal color in the clam? Which color spectrum am I missing in my lights? Thanks!!

You might be missing violet (less than 450nm), which can cause pigments to emit that bluish-green color. I just noticed the same thing on two different LED lights I built for my nano, one uses violets, royals, and warm whites, the other is just royals and warm whites. The colors in the tank of the RB/WW light frankly suck in comparison to the one that has a couple of violets in the mix.

I'm guessing the store had t5hos and you said you have LEDs that are only whites and royals. LEDs that are only whites and royals are not very good at bringing out all the colors in your livestock. What exact fixture are you using, this may also explain the death of your last clam.

I got the led lights online... they are similar to the taotronics, but I don't remember the exact brand name. I had the other clam for over a year and it grew to 3x it's purchase size. It literally died overnight. It was great the night before at 11pm and it was dead the next morning at 9am. The mantle was retracted and it's byssal foot completely separated from the shell.

Hi so I've been trying to get my clam to attach to a rock towards the upper third of my tank. That's where the old one was and it seems to have good lighting and good flow there. This new one keeps jumping off and landing in the sand. I have no problem keeping it in the sand.... the teal color that I mentioned before actually comes out a little more when it's further away from the light.... the question is whether my pistol shrimp will decide to eat it. The pistol is definitely the serial murderer of my cleaning crew....
