I was out & about the other day without my wife and was near LAX, so I decided to pop into Aquatic Outlet on Century Blvd (between LAX & 405). I'd been there a few times over the past few years and could tell they'd seen better days - but there aren't many options in the area, so it is what it is.
This time I knew something was different right away. As I parked I saw an 'under new ownership' banner on the side of the building and another over the door that said "LAX Aquariums". As soon as I walked in it hit me that someone had done a LOT of work in this place. I was immediately greeted by a super nice guy that introduced himself as the new owner. Turns out the old owner has passed the place down to his son and it sounds like he REALLY wants to develop this place a serious LFS - something that's really needed in the area!
He walked me around explaining things they've done and what they've got coming up - they do have some freshwater but their commitment to salt shows by the fact that they're building out a quarantining & fragging/grow-out area. They'll also be expanding further within the building. (as it is now they're utilizing maybe 3/4 of their area if the building) They have some dry goods but not a massive amount and they've got quite a few empty tank/stand/combo setups on display - from small to 240's.
I stopped in to get a quote on a new tank/stand/canopy and they didn't disappoint on price or stand/canopy options. They'll even deliver once I order. I didn't look too closely at the livestock but did breeze through and everything looked nice.
I think there's a lot of potential in their plans and I'm stoked that there could be a quality place for west side reefers. If you're in the area, stop in and check it for yourself.
