So I got this tang from an R2R vendor. It was supposed to be a Dessumeri Tang but I don't think it is. It doesn't have the characteristic caudal white spine and the tail shouldn't have too much white in it. The dorsal fin should also be more yellow. What do you guys think?

This what I received.

This is what it looks like as adult

I think this is what he sent me. A Ring tail surgeonfish which is somewhat similar but not very colorful . Both species are found in the same geographic area.

Yeah that's what I thought when I first opened the bag but the seller is denying it saying it needs time to color up. I was like...if the caudal spine is black it's gonna stay black. It doesn't change color. The white spine is the most unique feature of this fish. So far he had refused to respond to my request for a resolution :(

I bought a small duss from PIA a few years ago. It came in around 3" and had the white caudal spine. I think the one you received is different.

I can say, however, that my duss didn't start getting it's adult coloration until 5.5". It was a mottled brown until then.

The one I received is already around 5 inches so it's not that small. It's a little bigger than the one in Noah's photo. I can see the white spine in his photo but my tang the spine is BLACK!

The tail spine color is the tell-tale sign that it's not a duss.

The following was mine when he was about 4". It's a little unclear but you can see that the tail spine is white if zoomed in.

That could just be a honest mistake. I bought mine as a yellow fin tang from a reputable LFS and it certainly isn't now.

Ive been trying text/call since I received it yesterday but so far no response and after searching on R2R forum I found a bunch of bad reviews so I guess it's my mistake not digging deep enough before buying :(
I've looking for one for sometimes and no one seems to have it so I was super excited when he said he has one

Ooh I miss that. Hmm. That sucks then. I recently got a huge Achilles from him and I guess that I'm lucky coz all I've heard from others since then are negative feedbacks.

That's why I hate buying fish/corals sight unseen. I would rather pay more for them at my local pet shops. what's the price difference between the 2 anyway ?
