So I just though of this idea and I wanted to see if people have done it befor or know about it or something. Ok so alot of times people complain about the noise there sumps make, either from the return pump or skimmer maybe and yes overflow but that doesnt apply here, sure people like put pads under the pump and theres a few different methods but if ur sump is in a stand and fully walled in and it still makes noise couldnt you line the inside of it with noise canceling eggcrate? whated to hear your guys feed back. http://www.thefoamfactory.com/acousticfoam/eggcratefoam.html <something like this and ive even heard people use egg cartens http://www.ehow.com/how_4619822_use-egg-cartons-soundproof.html any one ever heard of someone doing this for there stand?

Hey Bobby. I've never really worried about noise. I just keep my tank in my living room on the other side of my house from my master bedroom. I think that eggcrate COULD help a bit however 99% of the stands I've seen have 3 sides max. You don't want to completely enclose a sump because it would inhibit proper gas exchange. The sump is where most gas exchange actually happens: water pouring/mixing into the sump then the fractionator and refugium. Inhibiting gas exchange can crash your system by building up carbonic acid in your water that could simply be off gassed by allowing ample air circulation through your sump.

If sound is a major concern you could just move your sump to a separate room. I know Toromp and maybe Wickedfish do this...

Yeah i meen this isnt a concern with me but yeah i just realized most sumps just have like 1 suport beam on the back haha maybe put egg crate on the wall behind the sump!! haha idk it seems to be a concern with alot of people, this could apply to noisy canister filters to haha wanted to get some opinions and brain strom and that answer was perfect cause it pointed out a lil flaw haha

Good thought but I agree with others not a good idea. When we set up our new tank we wanted to minimize the noise so we used a beananimal design drain system, bought a skimmer that is only 7 db and used a reeflo dart gold return pump. Our tank is very quiet. The loudest thing is the led fans. If they all come on at the same time the hum is louder then anything else, but even that is not bad
