So my dad caught a Red Ear Slider at Castaic Lake a week ago and thought he would keep it in his koi pond. However, my dad has a change of heart and tells me to get rid of it somehow....

...so here I am. It's about 10" long and 7" wide but I'll double check the size again in the morning.

Yea, Id take it back, most people on here woudnt be able to match where it came from, a big beautiful lake. Just tell your dad that he should get rid of it somehow, by taking it back.

I told my dad to go put it back at the lake since he visits there often. Lately, he doesn't have the time to go back cause of work.

Besides, Red Ear Sliders are invasive species anyways and I hate to see my dad (or me) getting a big ticket for releasing something that is invasive (but is already there).

Cal Poly Pomona has a bunch of them in several ponds around the school. I'm confident other schools have these as well. You could try calling a university's biology department and asking if you give them the turtle or even ask for information on how and where to release one. Their priorities are to help the animals not enforcing the rules so I doubt you would get in trouble asking them for help.

If you still have it by the next SCRK meeting I can take it from you and I'll release it at CPP with all the other turtles.
