Mine peaks at 8.35 and drops to 8.1 by morning. Nothing seems stressed in my system. Just curious if that's a normal or average swing?

What's ph? Powerhead? lol.. I'd only worry if it's less than 7.6

pH is interesting because if we choose, it can be monitored closely via pH probes like apex provides. However, not sure how significant it is. It can be effected by opening or closing Windows. Also seems that with our alkalinity that our water should be reasonably buffered but this is where my lack of chemistry knowledge tends to get me in trouble and out of my comfort zone.

I'm not sure I know anyone that tries to manage pH either. I use my apex pH probe but I never calibrated it, I simply look for fluctuation range which seems about 0.2-0.25 units through 24 hour cycle

I never really planned on trying to correct it, I was just curious to hear if that was a normal fluctuation.

I currently have a display refugium with livestock so I run it normal hours of the day. Before I'd run it 24 hours, but didn't have the apex with ph probe. I've heard that helps keep the pH () up throughout the night. Do any of you run fuge at night? And does it help with the drop off?

My PH swings about the same, also have a fuge I run 24hrs. Was considering running it reverse my display to see if it helped decrease the swing. Swing doesn't seem to bother anything, Everything seems healthy in my tank as well.

I have always lit my refugium on reverse schedule of my display just because I was told too--I know not a good reason. The rationale was to add to stability and oxygen production.

I run my fuge on opposite light cycle. Small daily fluctuation is no problem. Even with larger fluctuation it's probably still better to correct your equipment problem and let everything "slide" back to normal rather than intervening with "chemical" adjustment...i.e adding buffer etc.

There were many times when my feed pump for my CA reactor got clogged or my CO2 line stop releasing CO2 for 12-24 hours due to whatever reason and my Kh dropped more than 0.5 to 1.0. I usually keep my Kh at 7.8 one time it dropped down to 6.8 due to equipment malfunction BUT everything was fine and my tank is 80% SPS with chalice and torch and other lps. I typically just correct the equipment malfunction and let things go back to normal on its own which usually take a few days. I have to resist adding some buffer because that will create another swing. I think if your corals are healthy they should be able to ride thru those swings w/o problem as long as the swing didn't happen repeatedly in a short period of time.

On avg. my PH swings 0.12-0.19 every night. And I to run my sump lights at night and I also dose most of my ALK at night to help with the PH swing.
