What a GREAT meeting! Ushio came and taught us all about wavelengths, lighting, and what the future holds for reef keepers. I also found it interesting that the life of our Halides can be extended by simply moving them closer to the water's surface every 6 months (extending bulb life to almost 24 months) but we'll have to check that with Stan's PAR meter
Also, Ushio donated 2 250W DE bulbs with the winner's choice of color. Kamil took 1 and I think Gustavo won the 2nd....but that wasn't all
After Craig from Ushio, Rachel from SCCAT then talked to us about the very real dangers of Caulerpa Taxifolia. Who knew that a 1mm piece of this stuff could live 14 days out of the water, survive the journey down our storm drains, and cost $7.7 million to eradicate. Also, the stuff grows 1" per day and due to the toxicity, has no predators here off our coast. The stuff has been slowly taking over the Mediterranean all because of Aquarists carelessness. We also talked about the Marine Aquarium Expo (MAX) coming in April, the new Coral Farm in Vista (also donated to the raffle), and Mike Parkis' Bali shipment that should be at his house Sunday.
Next month we are still pushing Rudy to get water in his new beast so we can invade Fallbrook. Also, Ike from Current-USA will be talking to us in November.
Thanks again everybody for coming and supporting our club. Christmas Party in December
Mike
