Hey guys, i happen to be converting from sand to starboard bb and just thought of a possible problem. How will i get it past the eurobracing? I was thinking to bend the starboard past, but aslo was thinking 1/2inch starboard...is this bendable/doable? And if not maybe 1/4inch starboard will work?

Dimensions will be 47x23 and that should be snug glass wall to wall on all sides then I will trim out the tapezoid for the overflow, but the eurobracing is 4" inward plus the 1/2" thickness of the side glass planes, total 4 1/2". Will the starboard be able to flex that much?

And as you might or might not be able to see is that my sand is basically 95%gone, that patch you see is the only spot in the tank with sand which use to be 3 1/2" all around and is now basically ready for starboard so you can see why Im in a oh sh*t modality right now.
Here the eurobracing...

Depends on how you do it, but it shouldnt look cheesy. I know peeps that have rimless tanks and put one whole piece in because there is no bracing but they still use aquarium silicone to fill the gaps because they dont want detrius to build up in the gaps. hth

it won't look cheesy... use black silicone if your starboard is black so you can match the color...

I don't know about the underwater curing silicone
ok im using whitestarboard, im sure theres a white silicone..? and do i need to silicone it around the edges to the glass or as long as its snug its good?

No white that I have seen but the clear will be fine and it will be covered in coraline algae in no time, so it wont show.

ok thanks all for the input, the panic is easing :tea: now Ill search for some underwater curing silicone hopefully they make it and its reef safe. If anyone knows where to find some that'd be greatly appreciated!

and also i have quite a bit of gsp in my 40 so ima throw that on the starboard and hopefully have it look like a grassy bottom which would be pretty sick In time.

Ok let me ask ........you dont have the starboard in yet ? right......When you put it in just take all the water out and place the starboard in the tank. Then seal with silicone. Wait 8-12 hrs then put every thing back in. Will that work? Just do it right the first time...no? Thats just me thinking out loud lol

Also if you dont have a big tank.....because I believe the starboard is used to protect the bottom glass from the rock moving or putting to much pressure on a long tank and cracking the glass i wouldn't used the starboard or you have minimal rock there is no point.

yea not bad idea at all but will that to be to extreme of water change? or put same water back in? And would that be to extreme for the sps?

Im getting to get rid of my sand, im not a fan of it this time around in the 120 and prefer the look of starboard over pure bb. Also i only have 2 rocks in because i sold the rest because they were ugly and when the starboard is in i will reaquascape with shelf ect.

why would you want to seal it if you aren't going to take the water out...? just drop it in... you're not doing it right in the first place...

LOL...

just let it be... it's white, the division will be white (if you don't cut it a lot), and sooner or later, stuff will grow on it...

move the corals to a bin with heater, flow and skimmer if possible. They will be fine for that duration of time just to seal the bottom. After that put every thing back in and waallaaa ur set.
