once I get my new tank setup I am planning on stocking it with a lot of fish over time. I want to quarantine new fish before adding them to the dt. I went to petco right now and checked out the 20L and 40B tanks and am debating which one to get to use as a qt. I usually like to buy smaller fish so we can watch them grow.

My question is what do you all prefer to do with new fish, old school quarantine method or the tank transfer method? I've never done either and don't have equipment for either one so before I start buying stuff I want to know which one I will be doing.

Get 40 gallons, the more water the better. I use copper you just have to read on it because some fish can't tolerate it. If you do the TTM you will need multiple tanks... so it just depends what router you wanna do.

I know some folks here dont like RC, but since thats where I learned about QT/TTM. They really have good info there. While its rigid, its educational.

Anyway, all the fish that I bought have gone through TTM. Ive lost fish (mostly Anthias) since I couldnt get them to eat. Its a pretty painful process since you have to transfer every 3 days, but the process is shorter than hypo or CP or copper. It can also get expensive.

I have 2 10 gallon tanks, 2 heaters, pvc pipes, egg crate to cover both tanks, colander for transfer, air pump, air stones for TTM. I also have a couple of 20g for observation.

My process is get the fish to eat, then start TTM. During two of the transfers, i dose w Prazipro. After TTM, I observe for 2-4 weeks for brook/velvet since TTM is mostly to get rid of Ich.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm still not sure which way to go... QT seems like so much trouble, but I know its worth it and I want to do it. I don't have much room to place any tanks for it but I will make room somewhere in the garage.

I need to read up more on copper qt because right now to me the ttm actually seems like something I would more likely be willing to do. Every 3 days swap tanks, but then even with that after the 12 days are up I still need to keep the fish in a qt tank for observation for a couple weeks? Which means I need bacteria in there and all that normal qt stuff.

ok I should go read up more. Thanks again for the inputs
