Really nice work. I did a google search and only found the avant DIY kit. Is that what you used?

Anyone else as tired as I am of overflowing there skimmer cup and having all the nasty stuff go back in to the system. Well I finally did something about it, Installed a float switch in side the cup. So if the skimmer goes nuts and fills high enough to activate the float switch my controller will turn off the skimmer pump.

I was thinking about having the float valve plugged into the apex but controlling a control valve that dumps the skimmate into a 1 gallon jug. But if sh1t really hit the fan id be afraid it isn't enough! Haha

Can you show us how you made the neck cleaner? I've always wanted one. Looks like it works perfectly

why would you do that drill a whole in the cup and have it drain into a 5 gallon bucket
Come on SanhSotto we never let our skimmer dump out into an overflow container. That how people loose million dallor systems. Skimmer goes nuts keeps bleeding water out of the system ATO keeps refilling, in no time u have a brackish system. Tank will be fine with a skimmer for a few hours. Plus I get an email when a switch is triggered.
this DIY thread sucks.. >_>

This thread just went full retard, lol.

Emac- let me direct you to the emoticon at the end of oredith's post. Those generally indicate humor and, in this case, sarcasm. No need to throw yourself to the ground in a tantrum, take your toys and leave the playground.

I really like the float idea.

I've been struggling with the skimmer at work for months. I hate it, I walk into work Monday mornings and the cup if overflowing. pisses me off when I feel I have it dialed in. really hate this skimmer.

Agree with liking the float switch. And I hadn't thought about the possible failure of draining the collection cup and the ATO continuing to dump RO if the skimmer is acting up. I'd def prefer the skimmer just turn off.

E- did you make a bracket for the switch to hang from or did you drill a hole in the cup and bolt it in?
