overflow and return

im sure this may have already come up before but im new to thhe site and havnt found it but wut is the best way to get the correct flowrate with an overflow and return pump wuts the best way to match them up any help thanks

55 gallon X 10 = 550gph you can use a return pumprating from 500 - 700 gph, and math the overflow or go higher.

im just not sure wut size of pipe will give me wut gph from the over flow so im not sure on wut size of pipe to use i was going to put a pic of a drawing i made of wut i want it to look like but i guess it was to many kbs and i dont know how to make it any smaller

I could suggest 2 X 1" pipe on the drain or 3/4 and 3/4 for your return.

how big of a tank do you have?

its only a 55 going to have a 30 gal sump/fuge

3/4" return and 1" drain is more than enough a mag 5 or 7 or something equivalent to that sould work out. If you make a durso stand pipe you'll get about 800 gph thru the drain otherwise its about 600 gph for an 1" drain. the mag 5 or 7 has a 1/2" return fitting but you can make the hose bigger to get more flow.

also if your going to plumb hard pvc piping or return make sure you get a union with a ball valve. It will come in handy when maintaining the pump

i checked out that link but that looks like its just for tanks with drilled bottoms mine is going to be drilled in the side not the bottom heres a new link to my drawing i changed a cpl small things in my sump in the drawing i moved my bubble trap
