I'm building a new set up and got myself a 150g tank. It has only one hole drilled on the bottom. Didn't matter since I wa already planning on drilling new holes for a new overflow.

While wanting a coast to coast and doing research, I wanted the longest weir for the internal box and three holes for the external.

I liked the Shadow box from Synergy, but want a longer internal box.

So I found the one Exotic Marine System makes. It's a 35 inch internal box and the external box cones in two forms, 1 or 1 1/ 2" drains.

Anyone have experience with the exotic marine overflow?

Their website lists the 35" with 2" bulkhead drains for $250. Shadow is only ~$160

Im with you on the increades area of surface skimming but I like the carbonate casting of the shadow overflow. I have seen several setups that have a full siphon setup but are nowhere near the max potential and have it dialed down. If you get the right pump you will be fine with the shadow.

I'm planning for 10x turnover since I'm running the Triton method.
From the spec both overflow with 1" drains can do 1500gph and 1.5" drains will be much higher.
The Shadow is nice , but in my case I'm not to worried about the real estate it takes up in the back of the tank.

One of the reasons I purchased them was the higher strength material, and no bulkheads like other overflows in the class.

Is there a problem with bulkheads failing? I do like the higher strength as you mentioned. What about BPA leaching?

Leaky bulkheads happen. This eliminates that possibility.

I would just assume it won't leach anything harmful in your aquarium.

You still have the potential to leak with the Shadow and any other bulkheads since you still need the seals. Seems like over tighten would be the main cause.

How so? It is two less failure points. The connections are molded into the overflow box.

Edit- The overflow you are looking at has 3 if not 4 bulkheads. One between the box and 3 under the box. The Synergy uses no bulkheads.

Like I said, less points of failure. That is all I was getting at.
OK I just dont want you to have a false sense of security it would never leak. It can leak if not installed correctly.

BTW Im still interested in your extra Shadow Overflow. Hopefully I can have time to got down to OC.
