Can someone recommend a good PAR meter that doesn't break the bank? I've seen a few on Amazon and also some mods from hobbyists on YouTube but I wanted to know what most of us use in SoCal. Thanks in advance.

I know BRS has a few good videos on the subject that include % of accuracy for LED. With LED I think you may be stuck with a higher end PAR meter but I could be off there. I feel like that's what most of the newer improvements on Apogee are about. More accurate LED outputs in the bluer range.

The Seneye is decent for the price. It’s sensitive to blue light so it’ll read 2x the par for blue. However they have a new firmware now that corrects for it.

It’s really only good for single point light measurements since you have to angle it to wherever to read it. Doesn’t have a cosine corrective lense.

Would be nice to be able to rent one from someone/somewhere local instead of buying new or getting one shipped from BRS and back. I also need to check PAR for a clam I just bought.

Is there a club president? Maybe a group go in on one and they be responsible for it.

I use this one and got pretty accurate reading compared to the one I rented from brs. I believe it’s the same or similar sensor they use on their apogee par meter. The only difference is this is just the meter that you connect to your laptop and download a free apogee app to get it working . For $240 I think it’s a great investment.

I am! I run a modified saxby/AB+ schedule AI Prime 16HF at around 65% with diffuser over an IM 10g. No idea what the par is, but I'm getting a crocea in April so would like to make a measurement but loath to drop $200+. I have a coworker in Corona that could help with pickup/dropoff.

Tried the Photone app. I download the full spectrum one for $5.99 works pretty good. just put your phone in a ziplock bag and cover the camera lenses with white paper as the diffuser. It uses your camera for the PAR readings
