Went to my local petco to get some reptile stuff, and tucked away in the corner of the store they have a tiny saltwater supply section. I saw a single bucket of petco brand salt. 150 gallons for only $12! So the question is, it it worth it? It doesn't say any specifications besides "high in calcium". Even if it wasn't great for reef tanks I still think its a steal for the fowlr guys out there. If anyone buys it could they do a parameter test?

Even if you need to add some more Calk, Mag or other trace elements you can't go wrong as long as it isn't full of nitrates of phosphates. I'd buy it, mix it, test it AND PLEASE post it. If it's bad you can always take it back.

Wow! If you dose or run a CARX then it doesn't matter. I used to get some no name brand that mystic reef had back in the day with no problems. I think I'll give this a shot. thanks for sharing.

Yup not on the website, I believe it was my specific petco that relabeled a generic salt company. It is the West Covina petco. Im going to pick it up later today before you guys steal it lol

Well, lets be rational.

Someone took the time to silk screen some 5 gallon buckets of salt with a very mass production style label.

This will not be a west co only thing.

I am hitting my local pet co tonight (moval and redlands) to see if they have it as well.

Everyone interested, check your local one first and report back!

I called a local Petco (San Dimas) and they told me they dont have it.
From the sticker on the shelf on the OP pic, looks like it could be an older item. Dated 01/01/00.

Dalton, when you open it, let us know if its a giant block of salt or not.

Interesting you noticed the date alan. Maybe the reason it was $12 was because it wasn't on the website and the only item in the system under that name was $12 back in 2000. Ill try to get as many buckets as i can before they figure out that they messed something up lol

Same thread on many other reefing forums since 2010.

Let me summarize:
$12- no brainer, buy a few
~$25- only if you're itching to buy reef stuff today
$30+ just get a box of IO

I was thinking the same thing Dalton. My Petco and some I've checked in my travels through S.D. is $49. Get what you can while you can.
