Well for the past few days ive been noticing that my PH has been dropping below 8.0. But today before leaving I checked and PH reading on RKL read 7.75..WTH only thing that I've changed and added are the chiller and reprogrammed my doser to dose alk during the day thinking it would help to stabilize.. My lights turns on at 5p and off at midnight. Fuge light on at midnight/ off at 8ami dose CA@1am on a 12hr cycle/alk@9a on a 12hr cycle/ mag on a 24hr cycle should I change/add/remove/replace anything ? On another note my thriving chaeato pod population has decimated amd chaeto turning white and dying?, but I think its related to UV that I installed a few month ago

I wouldn't worry about pH...just check your Alk make sure it's stable...and changing from night to day alk dosing would change your tank parameters for sure....most people would dose it at night when pH is naturally depressed.

Alk is stable btwn 9.5-10(is that considered stable?) … maybe it was a bad idea to change the alk dosage time. CA doasge time is fine at night time or better during the day?

Test it with something else, maybe your probe or rkl is clucking out on you.
Dont think is the probe… since jason mentioned being the windows being closed, bc my sister commonly close all windows when no one is home. And thats usually I check. So I'll pay attention to that detail for the next few days..

My biggest problem is getting an Apex and constantly monitoring PH.
If I didnt know I am pretty sure everything would be fine.
Sometimes my knee- jerk reaction is to ad buffer and bring up PH, probably not the best idea.

It's always alk, it doesn't matter what the issue is--it's your alk. If it is between 9 and 10, then it should be able to buffer your pH adequately. Something is off and most likely it is a faulty pH measurement.

All of our darn measuring tools and kits always seem to be goofy. So you check and them recheck and them scratch your head because of the frustration of not being able to get accurate or atleast consistent measurements . I apologize, it's just that I am not very good at or satisfied with hobby test kits. There seem to be lots of other hobbyists better skilled at testing than me.

I have heard about fresh air and pH in reef tanks but it seems if you live in Southern California, your doors and windows are closed all summer long. So I'm not sure I understand that issue at all.

Pretty sure that's not going to have any bearing on the pH of your tank.

and depending when you check and or test is a factor, when light is off on aq ph can and may drop to 7.6 less light less 02 ph drops naturally so I would test near the end of your light cycle to ensure a proper reading we need more info on when u notice the ph drop was the light on in the aq and if so for how long

I see where Robert proposed something, but James I don't see a post confirming anything other than you figured it out. Was the probe bad or needed to be calibrated?
