Hey guys,
So I had a phosphate spike a a week ago and it got up to 0.45. I had a little browning but nothing major for that kind of episode. After every other day Water changes I'm down to 0.21. My question is.... Should I run some GFO and get rid of the phosphate or slowly bring it down. I'm a newb and not sure what the best plan of action would be considering this is the first episode of this kind. Please feel free to share so I can learn from your trials. Thanks

I am battling it to at .14 from .24 now...slow and steady..try to identify what you think caused the spike and remedy that..in my case I have just not maintained my tank and hope to bring it down with my old usual routine of gfo/carbon and vodka dosing.

but definitely don't want to make it worse by dropping it straight to 0 with a product for reducing. but you might need to use some. me as well.

So who uses what is the question?

Try your best to control it but you may need to resort to a phosphate absorber..I am debating it myself just to get back on track

for me though just water changes at this point and vodka which I don't recommend unless you want to do some researching on it.

I've got a heavy bioload and feed a lot of frozen. I change out the rowaphos every other week and dose about 30ml of PhosE a week, that keeps me at about .1 I think it really depends on what you're keeping and what your corals are use to. Some would say .1 is way high, but the corals are happy so I don't worry about it.

+1 also you can test your rodi top off water for p04 as well , you can have 0 tds and still get p04 so test your water to ensure the source is a good one the level you want is .02 or lower

i would check you rodi, then make water to do a few wc this week. if you can dilute 50% of the water you will be back to normal. then use gfo. at jason recommended amount half.
