What if my first stab is responsible for popping the eye out? Then, could I stab it? I just thought we had carte blanche to stab them whenevs...

I think you may be right. They stabbing criteria is for the fish to have any aggression, with an inability to net the fish within 2 attempts.

Well I had a pair of false percs in a 16g IM nuvo tank and a couple of small tank mates. Rest assured the percs made all the other fish jump and the female became very aggressive to the male. This was after they were established and came out of nowhere. They weren't that big either. It all just depends on the fish's personality really.

Yep. Key word is "depends".

I once knew a dude that put a yellow tang in a 3g. What a monster! Lol

Honestly , a 10g should be fine for 2 clowns this size, as they grow bigger it may get tight at some point..and I have seen some really nicely kept nanos that size housing clowns a Nem ( small) and zoas etc. Only thing to consider is lighting and maturity of the tank for the Nem. Also good parameter maintenance , of course. As for different clowns.. I have very successfully kept pairs of each species .. Peacefully . While u can pair them together , size of the fish is the most contributing factor. It will be a good idea to trade one for a smaller fish.. They will pair in MOST cases.. But as stated earlier by others , there are no hard fast rules in this hobby. Except for the one where I'm unable to keep Magician Palys No matter what! ;) good luck!

C'mon people...read through the thread ffs...

He's putting 2 clowns in a 10g. That's plenty of space for a pair of clowns. I've seen a pair happily in a 5g.

James- I don't know how many more useful suggestions you're going to get. I'm in agreement that it's because similar size. They will get it figured out eventually but if you can put a screen in between them for a few days or release one and keep the other in the acclimation box then maybe they'll get used to each other a little more peacefully.
I have my breeding pairs in about 10 gallons and they are happy enough to lay eggs so I totally agree.

There are exceptions to every rule. In my experience if clowns are fighting they will keep fighting. Separate them.
