I dont know what to do or if I should be concerned but over the last 2 weeks I've been in and out of town and have unfortunately neglected my tank. I came home to find a wild outbreak of pineapple sponge all over my sump but not in my display. I've heard this is not anything to worry about but they are out of control! should I be removing them? and are they absorbing nutrients?

They are filter feeders and won't sting anything so I would leave them. Manual removal if you just can't stand the sight of them.

I agree, keep them, if they show up in your main display, just pluck them out. But I doubt they will since they prefer no light..

I have some type of sponges in my sump forever with nothing showing in the DT. In there, I don't see how they can cause any damage...

I had a huge amount of them in my sump for over a year (before I broke the tank down). They never ended up in the display. I was always under the impression they were a good thing.
