So I plumbed most of my taNk already. Reeflo said to use pipe dope and not tephlon. But I read that someone used tephlon with no issues. I've never used pipe dope before. I guess I'm a total amateur but I did maybe 3 rounds with tephlon and tightened the fitting to the max. Maybe over tightening cuts the tephlon or something. But in 2 areas I have a very slow drip. Well its very hard to remove it and screw it back together because all the other fitting and pipes are cemented with elbows and turns. Question is. Will rtv silicone around the gap where it meets work? Im sure it'll stop the drip but for how long? And is it safe before I fill my whole system and can't drain it.

It will make a mess and leak again. Get a new male adapter and some pipe dope and do it right. Don't over tighten either. You can split the housing that way

I had the same problem a while back till I finally fixed it. Buuuuuuuut have you ever seen those infomercials with that spray that instantly seals. The guy even sprays a screen door to the bottom of a boat and it floats. Lol that would Deff be a fix!!

Is that spray thing going to make a mess on the pump? I might just rtv the very slow drip where the elbow is at the sump. And redo the pumpnside with pipe dope. I'll you tube proper pipe dopebusage tonommrrow. Looked a little funky so I went with tephlon.

And I was dumb. Didn't plan too much. I used union connectors. Didn't think about how I was going to stop water from spilling if I needed to disconnect them. Too late. Lol and the connectors are right at the mouth and exit ofbthe pump. One of the leak location is right at the sump drain to pump. Can't unscrew it now. Only if I cut .

Buy a 6 pack and invite newToThis over for a drink. Talking without seeing what you f'ed up is hard to advise. :) he might see other potential issues from having the experience which saves you the next head ache.

6 pack is just to get him to come over for a quote :); It is like you ask a Sears guy to come over to get an estimate: "Your deposit will be applied toward the repair's final bill. However, if you decide to not follow through with the repair, your deposit is NOT refundable" :)

He will be billed in the end for drinks which run at bar prices, he will none notified until job is completed. Who knows, he may end up leaving with a negative balance!!

I can see that you will be doing your own plumbing this weekend :); At least you know Derrick's mistakes. Hopefully you can avoid his mistakes...... I have seen many times people make the same mistakes over and over.....It's like "I don't believe it until I see it....then oh shhhhhh! should have listened!" :)

In am ordering the fight this Saturday.

Its basically dripping from the threaded fittings. I hate threaded fitting and prefer cementing. But the mouth of the pump has inner threading.

This size of pipes, I would use the paste. Paste spreads out evenly and fills in the gaps a lot better than the Teflon. Besides, how you wrap the Teflon is another problem. Paste takes that problem out of the picture completely imo
Can someone tell me the difference or benefit to using pipe dope vs tephlon? Just wondering why reeflo wants pipe dope only. I figured tephlon is fine since they us it on gas pipes.

Also, just a small earthquake shake can break your pipe and the tank water will be drain right? I don't know any better but this looks scary specially in California. Do we have any flexible hoses or something for this type of plumbing?

spa flex

HD/Lowes sell it by the foot in different sizes. It's PVC so you use the same pvc glue to connect it to your fittings

Too bad I didn't know about this earlier. I had a terrible time cementing tons of different angled abs together.

Earthquakes don't worry me. If its strong enough to shift my tank more then a few inches I have a lot more then cracked pipes to worry about .

Guess I'm going to hit up my local dealer for some dope.
