Does anyone else have a pond liner under their sump in their stand? I have been doing this for about 17 years now and this morning it saved me a second time. Mine goes under my sump and has a lip that goes up the stand.

My ATO pump got stuck on, and emptied my entire reservoir into my sump, then over my sump and into my stand. Luckily I had the pond liner in place. It looks like it held about 4 gallons of water. Without the liner, I would likely be spending my day moving my tank and possibly pulling floor boards.

If you haven't done this, next time you move the sump this is a great little trick and pretty cheap to do.

Now you tell me. LOL. It's a great idea, but it's hard to do that when the sump is full of water.

You might want to look into programming your ATO pump to not run for more than X minutes before shutting down and send alarm. That is what the Tunzo osmolator has built in, and I'm sure if you have apex controlled pump...that can be programmed as well.

Moving the sump is easy. . . I just did mine today LOL. You can do it in a morning :)

The Tunze nano is the one that got stuck on me. From reading online it has happened to others as well. I now have the the Osmolator 3155 on my little nano. Figure if it works on the big tank why not. :D Normally that pump has the same built in off feature as the Osmolator so I never programmed additional safe guards into it.

As the kids say “pics or it didn’t happen”.

How do you seal up the corners? I’ll be upgrading to a bigger tank soon and would like to do something like this.

I just fold them up and staple the top piece at the corner. Mine is really nothing fancy at all.

Another option if it’s feasible is to drill a hole right below the top of your sump and run some pvc outside or into the garage

This will be my future. I am getting to old to carry buckets. I plan to put my drain line a bit lower, and then just pump new water in for WC's. Extra can drain out.

I have a friend who has his skimmer drain into a line this way as well.

I haven't gone that far on my nano tank yet, but will do that on my larger tank in the next year. Moving the entire sump to the garage in the next few months is the plan. Then drain straight to the house drain.

Did same thing. Pond liner stapled up 5 inches or so. Saved me twice from skimmer overflow splash. Really need to install the skimmer shut off device…

Not when you have a 70g sump with all your electronics in it.
