Id prefer not to be the one to make comparisons given my affiliation with RAP. Attendance and is a difficult thing to gauge. Youve all been to both now... so Ill let you be the judge.
I didn't mean to put you on the spot comparing RAP and MACNA. Since you have been to other MACNAS I wanted to understand if there was a similarity between this MACNA San Diego and MACNA Denver or MACNA Orlando. Anyway, I see where you are coming from and whatever you say can be misrepresented. I will retract my question and just say that I was happy to pick up some cool coral at this MACNA.

I will say though that the speakers were top notch. And the guys from SDMAS worked extremely hard. Most people dont realize the amount of time and effort it takes to organize shows of this size. Why we are very lucky to live where we do amd get to enjoy our own local marine aquarium shows year after year. The parties and dinner were great and overall I had a nice time.

I agree RAP is better from a hobbiest point if view, MACNA was more tailored towards venders /wholesale (felt like SEMA) the livestock was seriously lacking --I wouldn't go out of my way to attend another MACNA , but I'm glad I attended and being so close why not. I had a lot fun ,won a couple raffles , found a frag of grafted setosa ,and just hanging out with fellow reefers ( and booing FRAGKILLER @ last raffle = epic)

hahaha.... phill is a good sport... i'm glad he won as much as he did... but i was talking **** when he did... LOL...

and yeah.. it was the sema of the reef world... that's what i told everyone... shouldn't expect a hot import nights carshow when you go to sema.... so don't expect a RAP level show when you go to macna...

and just the same... i'm not saying it was wack... it just wasn't for me... i don't like sitting through lectures, i don't like watching presentations, i don't like looking at the newest and most amazing equipments out there... it's just not what i like to do... yeah, i talked to some vendors, especially the ones i thought were cute or sexy... LOL... WooF!!!...

I'm not sure what that means LOL

MACNAS are overseen by MASNA, but are run and organized by the local club of that area. At least that is how it has happened. But its not all on the local club, the various companies exhibiting at the show play a big role in what is donated. That also holds true for the giveaways at the booths, grab bags, etc.

And before anyone reading this goes wacky, I always enjoy all the shows and always find people or things that I enjoy at every one of them. Its just the raffle was disappointing this year.
what i mean is not bad. seem like having in the west coast harder to get to more expensive. west coast hobby is not what it use to be.

LMAO yes we do. But I was at MACNA for 3 days... so I think you have a bigger problem than I if you only went 1 day?

That's the planet aquariums no? If you don't mind saying how much was it? I asked on Friday if it was going to be for sale and he said no :(

Overall I was quite disappointed with macna. It just felt like a tiny bigger RAP with more equipment but not even the awesome equipment. I wanted to get the eshopps eclipse overflow for a small tank and the rep at their booth said aquatic warehouse was doing a show special on it so when I go over there their amazing show special is no tax. Seriously? Then I was randomly walking the aisles and came upon a vendor who had a ton of different lights but then I found out they were empty boxes. Regardless I asked about a Kessil AP700 and he said they could sell me one shipped free no problem and gave me a really good price on it without me even asking and no haggling. The spectrapure booth was also great as they were selling filters and membranes for truly awesome prices with no haggle.

Everybody else would rather pack up all their stuff and ship it back.

gus6464, you gotta pick the right vendors to make the deals. If they are close enough to drive their product to the event, they probably don't mind, taking it back. It's those that bring a lot and don't want to ship it back that are ripe for the taking. Those are the ones that will deal! It helps to also helps to simply know the right people.

It was 3200. Came with 5 reefbrites, full apex, tank, stand, sump, return pump and has a ghost overflow.
Nice tank. Show special price?

There were a few tanks that could be had on the show floor for rock bottom prices.
