Was just there looking for a turbo and saw a derasa for $50. Wasn't the most colorful specimen.

I don't know if they have good enough light to support a clam at Petco (maybe they do? I didn't see any non-soft corals, though...).

Anyway, this is a PSA in case anyone wants to rescue a $50 clam and has the appropriate PAR for it to thrive.

It's definitely not an ultra. I just feel bad for where it is. I could be wrong, but I don't think they have it under a radion or even a Prime.

If no one buys it soon, I'm tempted to just pick it up and put it on top of my rocks in a makeshift cradle filled with sand--would be getting 200-250 PAR there...

I imagine it’s more of a water quality issue than lighting. It doesn’t matter if you have the best light if your water sucks.

Light is the most important factor with clams, as long as you can keep corals healthy, the water parameters are good. Derasa should be put on substrate and not rocks, but a flat piece of rock is fine. Also, viewing clams from the front glass will change their color quite a bit, so the best viewing is from above. Btw, $50 is great no matter what clam these days.

Agreed. Now who's going to save this poor clam??

Awesome! I don't know if we should be promoting clams stocking at Petco, but glad it made it to a happy tank!

Picked it up after I went tmy dog a toy, ended up buying the clam and a mini carpet anemone for $30
I love your derasas! Which one was the Petco one? The middle has a lovely pink color doesn't it?

What light do you use for that and do you know ~PAR you're getting on the sandbed?

The middle one is the one from Petco. It does have a nice pink spots.

I'm using the Radion G4s and to be honest I'm not sure what the PAR is. I keep the intensity around the 45%
