Pulsing Xenia - nub on stalk

I've never had xenia before so I wasn't sure what these weird nubs that appeared on the stalk were.

Do these continue to grow and then attach themselves to nearby rocks?

that's a foot... as soon as it touches anything that isn't a fish... it grabs on and starts spreading all over the place... the pink red sea xenia is known to attach itself to far rocks and glass that way... silver tip xenia also does that too... but it takes them a while to develop a foot and grab a hold of something...

at nights when u turn of the light and then they lay on the rock and the atomaticly conecting to the rock so that a food dont even worry about it just keep the fater flow slow.

dunno why but i can't seem to keep xenias in my tank
me nether...


i had the red sea xenia like the OP, and it was two stalks for like 3 years and just recently it died... but when i would put any other xenia in the tank, it would melt in a week...

ive had the same colony of xenia for about 5 months now. it goes through phases of looking like its melting off and then a few weeks later its back to normal with double the stalks.. wierd coral.
mine was also much much happier in a poorly maintained 2.5 pico than my 10 with reef like parameters
