I am running a Rio 1400 for my tank, currently in sump. I just made some modifications and I am trying to make the pump external. Does anyone run this brand extenaly, would you recomen to do so? Input would be apreciated.

Even if you "make it" external, you're putting a lot of faith in that pubic hair of an o-ring on the intake side.

Thanks for the input everyone, it is appreciated. I want to make the pump external for the following reasons.
1. Reduce the amount of heat in the water.
2. I purchased a cone skimmer a few months ago and it did not fit into the sump's second chamber. I cut the baffle between chambers 2 and 3 so it could fit but now my return pump and skimmer were in the same chamber resulting in micro bubbles going in to the display. So, to eliminate micro bubbles.
3. After inserting another baffle that could accommodate for the size of the skimmer, the pump did not fit anymore.
4. Pump finally died on me yesterday.
5. I like messing with stuff.
