Moved all my fish to a new tank and I'm looking to add a few more. I don't want to keep/hold a QT tank for infrequent purchases. I was wondering what types of options anyone uses beyond fish tanks. I was wondering if I could use a 125 qt ice chest as a temp QT tank, or an inflatable kiddie pool? heater, circulation pump, lighting, etc.

I only ask because I kept my fish in a 150g black tub for the last 14 weeks while the first floor of our house was gutted and redone. No losses of fish.

Yes all could be fine options. Cost wise, don’t see the benefit. Petco dollar gallon sale should get you what you want. Remember large tank means everything (including medication) cost wise goes up

Depending on the size of the fish, you can simply use a couple old salt buckets (5g) to do a hybrid TTM.

if you're just wanting a few more things, i'd just buy pre-qted fish online and save the hassle of it all

and worst case you could do the hybrid ttm as mentioned, although i'd want to observe the fish in an unmedicated tank afterwards just in case, but not everyone does that

I should be clear, I used the 150 tub because I needed it for all my fish. I'm getting rid of it next week. I mentioned ice chests because we have and use those periodically so we wouldn't be "adding more stuff" to the house like a tank would be, ,sitting around until I needed it. But online QT is a good option, thank you for mentioning that.

Keep a sponge or I like to use biowheel in your sump. They are like 5-10 bucks. That way it's seeded and you dont' need to always have a qt taking up space. You can have a QT up and running with no cycle issues in under an hour. I feel 20g long is the perfect size for most small-medium fish. I've done groups of 10 chromis without issue in one with a large sponge driven by a aqueon air pump. super simple. Once done or set up toss the sponge filter and put a new one in the sump.

Adam from Ocean Devotion is a great local resource for fully qt’d fish. That’s where I get all of my fish from.
