Just upgraded to a 60 gallon tank. I've never used a quarantine tank but I learned my lesson. So i want to gwt a 10-20 gallon tank but also want a frag tank but that's to Many tanks for my one bedroom apartment I was hoping I could just use 1 tank for both. Is this not recommended. I don't have a super big budget thinking tank off Craigslist maybe a small diy filter I seen some youtube videos where I could makes something and put multiple stages of filtration don't know how affective it will be but will ad flow and filter at same time. and a cheap used light off the classifieds. This sound doable or is it one or the other.

The problem with using one tank for both is that if you do have an fish disease you need to go out and purchase a second tank anyways since you cannot treat the fish in a tank with corals. At a minimum I would first use the tank transfer method before placing any fish into your frag/QT.

I agree. Using only one tank is risky due to fish diseases. But it is do able. Just use coral dips when transferring them back into your tank like CoralAddiction suggested

The more I think about it the more it's a bad idea. Maybe I could try and set something up in my garage so I could have a big frag tank and when needed a separate quarantine tank but I also work on my cars in there would there be any side effects of having an aquarium in a garage
