I just bought my niece a lil 10 gal tank, and what kind of lighting should i get for it and how much, and is there a cheap protein skimmer for a 20 gal for cheap? let me know, planning to buy tomorow :) thanks and happy holidays

what do you want to put in the 10g, if you just want softies you can get away with some basic compact florescent lighting, say 20-30w or so. skimmer, not too sure on that, there are nano skimmers, aqua c is a good brand, not cheap though, reasonable. hope that helped a bit.

i have two 12 gallon nanos and was running fission nano skimmers on them both. i took them both off because it came too much of a hassle to mess with them tiny skimmers. its so easy to do substantial water changes on such a small tank i honestly think you dont need a skimmer.

Lighting options will be pretty limited on such a small tank. CF is your best bet in terms of getting enough light intensity to keep some basic corals like softies and LPS. I agree with crex111, ditch the skimmer idea. Do frequent water changes to keep the quality high. You may also consider using a hang on power filter to run carbon and/or phosphate remover.
