ok so I cleaned out my freshwater tank pretty good, took all the sand out washed it out pretty good, cleaned the sump out spotless, the hoses, pumps etc... and have refilled it and have been cycling just freshwater for now, but before I put in salt water im wondering about snails. since all the plants I had in there prior I have a million little snails in the sand that come out at night go on the glass then go back on the gravel during the day. should I some how try to sift and take them out? im just worried that when they die from the salt water, they will mess up the new salt water, or will it even matter?

Personally, I would invest in live sand. Would be worth the expense.
Unless you don't mind the wait.

+1 plus when all the other snails die off it will just lead to problems. I would suggest using a new substrate, Live sand is my favorite. Remeber to cycle all the way through.

I thought you could add live sand to dead sand, and it will turn it all into live sand ? well ill definetly look into a way to get those snails out then.

You are right about seeding dead sand with live sand. Unless you can find live sand from another reefer who is getting rid of it, it's pretty expensive to use all live sand that come in bags. Seeding is more economical if that's the case.

coarse 1/8 in wire mesh on a 2x4 frame might work. Pour it all through.....
Just a thought.
yeah ill probly end up fabricating something like that only thing that sucks is the snails are tiny as hell, so it might even need to be smaller than an 1/8th, who knows, ill figure it out when I get out of work. hopefully I can get out before 8:30pm
