I recently bought a 60 gallon cube with a 12" rose. I moved the tank to my house. Had to replace about half the water. Drip acclimated the rose for 30 min and in it went. The tank was lit by 4 par 38 leds that weren't included. What was included was a new AI Sol LED fixture. I set the light down low 25 percent as it was stronger than the old lights and I didn't want to burn the nem. After 3 days the nem split likely due to a number of factors. My water quality is where it should be (not my first reef).

My problem: one of the two nems is fine. Mouth looks healed. The other was good this morning but had been traversing the tank. Last I saw it was rumbling over some mushrooms. I get home from work and it looks BAD! Everything else in the tank looks fine. All other corals and nems are open and inflated. there was an emerald crab next to the sickly looking nem eating something (possibly part of the nem). The nem was down in a back corner.

I have since grabbed it and put it in a breeder box. Included is a pic of both nems. Any advice?

Ouch that thing looks bad. The only time I've had a new look that bad was when it went threw a powerhead. Does it stink? If it does then its dying

It could have some sort of infection from the split !! Nem's normally split due to stress in the tank so the move probably caused that .. I would just watch it over the next couple of days and see what happens .. Also my try giving it a small piece of food .. Good Luck !!!

I didn't smell any odor when I put it in the container. It's just weird that it looked fine for a few days and now this. Also odd that the other is just fine. I just don't know.

My bubble nem will look like that every now and then when its pooping ... I Know !! lol .. just give it a few days to recover from the split .. you can try a piece of food to see if it will eat .. if after a couple of days it looks worse, is disolving away and stinks like a porta potty then get it out of your tank before it blows up and NUKE'S your tank ... Have patience !! Things live and die every day in this hobby Atleast you still have the other half if this one doesnt make it ... Good Luck !!

I put the breeder box vents right up against one of the returns for flow. I have a squid on the return so it alternates the current and isn't blowing constantly on the nem. Do you think I should add a small power head and keep him under constant flow or leave it with the alternating flow?

Other than smell what are some other indicators of it dying? When should I give up hope? I don't want this thing to pollute my tank and cause something catastrophic

I'd say just keep watching it closely. Like most things in this hobby it'll take some time to either heal. I think you'll be okay so long as you're vigilant and ready to pull it out if it's going south. At this point I'd say it's just healing. If it was a goner I would have expected that to have happened by now...but stay vigilant.

If it's dying you might see it expell all of the zoanthellae and start to look pale. It's another bad sign but like I said, I think it's just taking it's time to heal is all.
