Ok so I'm redoing my return switching to a higher gph pump. Should I keep my return lines at 3/4 pvc or should I go to 1 inch. Question is won't I get less flow going to 1 inch as there will be more head weight on the pump ? Going to also do a manifold to run my reactors.

I'm just wondering on the pipes for now. Come on guys. Should I go 1 inch or keep it at 3/4. Would 1 inch add weight and make less flow ??

1" will have greater flow than a 3/4". Hydraulic head (pressure from difference in height) will be the same for both pipes given the same delta in elevation. Friction losses will always be greater in smaller pipes, which is why the greater flow with the 1".

Remember, where there is flow - pressure is low. You will get better turnover which the rule has always been, turnover your water volume 10 times an hour. If you increase the GPH but keep the same plumbing, you will have greater pressure out of the returns causing more turbulence. It all depends on what you are looking for.
