Hey guys, we always talk about the good stuff. I'm curious to know what bad things have happened to you while in this hobby. I've heard of fires from ballast, floods etc... Care to share?

I was woke @ 4 am by some one whispering in my ear "wake up!"  I found my tank had overflowed (durso got clogged w/something??) for a couple seconds or something and dumped like 5g of water on my floor, no damage but still had to mop up the floor. I have no idea if it was in my dreams that somebody woke me up, but its weird that there was nothing wrong w/my tank but somehow it overflowed?? My only explanation was that my tang drifted asleep and covered part of the overflow teeth making the tank overflow

the worst thing that happened to me was when the power went out and i was stupid enough to not have check valve on my return pump. this caused my sump to overflow as it was also too small and about 10 gallons ended up in the carpet. it was so much fun to try and vacuum the water out of the carpet! however, i have since then added a check valve and got a bigger sump

how does the check valve work? i have an all in one tank and don't have a sump. one of the reasons for starting this thread is to find out what not to do on my next tank which is not going to be an all in one.
