Hi Mike. The tank IMO is doing great so far.

The Bad: I lost a red dragon that I think I glued too high in the tank. And your red planet started RTNing for I think the same reason (sorry Mike). I moved it lower and the flesh loss stopped. I'm thinking of fragging the pieces that are left it I could just leave it alone.

The Good: all other sps, my clams, LPS & Zoas are all doing great. My sps has really colored up big time! And all are encrusting over the glue. The HA is almost gone and my phosphate reactor is helping. I have 5 fish in the DT and one in the sump (homicidal mimic tang).

I'm actually picking up 6 leopards tomorrow. I'm playing the numbers to end up with a few...we'll see. I bought more bacteria in a bottle to help with the jump in load. I'm a little apprehensive about 6 fish at once but they'll be small and like I said, I want more than 2 in the long run. After these guys it'll be a few weeks before anything else goes in there.

Other than these fish I'm hoping to add a few clams and some sticks from RAP.

Work left to do is to settle my dosing regimen, setup the doser, buy/install an ATO reservoir (using a jug right now), migrate the apex from the old tank, and, finally, make and install a door to the stand.

I setup a purchase of 6 leopard wrasse. I planned on adding all 6 and playing the numbers hoping 4-5 would survive as a harem until 1 turned male. Well, I got the call that only 4 were available and they were "bigger" so would be a little more expensive...whatevs. When I got there they all looked like males...all were very colorful (red, blue, green) although they looked super jetlagged. Well I figured 4 males in one tank is a bad thing so I passed on them. The vendor later got back to me that they're macropharyngodon ornatus. That explained the coloration versus what I expected (m. meleagris or bipartitus). I didn't want ornates so I passed on them again. Moral of the story? I think I'm going to abandon my wishes of keeping leopards. I've been complicit in the death of 6 at this point in my reefing life and maybe I'm just trying to fly too close to the sun. I need to make a final decision in the next couple of weeks since if I do want to try again I want them to be the next fish in the tank.

Since the leopards were a bust I stopped at an LFS and picked up a bangaii to pair with my current one and a cleaner wrasse.
The cleaner wrasse was busy cleaning everyone at the LFS and when I asked them to feed the tank it was a greedy eater. Once I got it in the tank it's even eating nori...didn't expect that. I have high hopes that this guy lives a long healthy life in my tank. It's social personality immediately infected the other fish in the tank and they were all out and about in the tank which was awesome. And all of the fish so far have queued up with him for a cleaning.
The bangaii wasn't as much of a success. My existing bangaii which is bigger than the new one was at first tolerant and they immediately schooled but then after a few minutes began to attack the new guy. I really didn't expect that...maybe I was naive. I caught the bigger established one and put him in a plastic container with holes. Once the new one is fully adjusted I'll let the bigger one go and see what happens. Hopefully some time in solitary chills it out.

Don't be a girl and get some leopards! You can do it!
You guys are funny. Okay, I'll keep at it. I just hope I can line up another group of them (and meleagris or bipartitus this time). I've been most successful when I can add multiples. Either that or if I find one at the LFS that is eating frozen then I'll pull the trigger. I saw one yesterday but it wouldn't touch the frozen brine fed to the tank.

I'm always surprised when i hear how hard leopards are to keep and get i have 2 females and it looks like the smaller one is changing into a male its developing a greenish tint in the face and starting to go down the body I've had one for about 3 years and the smaller for 1 i never qt'ed em just ripped the bag open drained the water and tossed them in arrrgghhhhh!!!!! I know lol anyways I've purchased 3 in the 10-11 yrs ive been reefing and only lost 1 to a nem that's a b@$t@rd and ate my copperband too but I've had it for almost 8 yrs and almost turbo torched its @** but its a rider lol so it stayed stupid fish shouldn't be up in the nem anywayz!!!! I never let the fish hit the holding tanks at my lfs they get them in around 4-5pm give me a hollar and i zip on over and take it before they pop the bags maybe thats helped with my success . good luck on any new ones there really cool fish my fav's

I turned on my lights to take a picture of a frag last night. They'd been off for like an hour or so. Well I couldn't believe the polyp extension in the tank. I mean the polyps were reaching out further than I've ever seen on any coral. It was pretty cool. Some polyp extension for your consideration.

Nice... that's some huge extension you have there.
I'm really digging the h.a. on your rock.
Now I don't feel so bad about mine.
:D
Lol, ouch! Yeah, the HA sucks but it'll be gone soon enough. I might siphon it out but honestly if I just keep up with the GFO and skimming it'll be gone soon enough. You should have seen it 3 weeks ago...I had snails that looked like "Cousin It".

How are you liking the CeramEco stuff?
I LOVE it! It's really open so the flow in the tank is really good. The one knock might be that it doesn't have a ton of closed off areas that the fish might like to sleep in since it's so open but the fish so far are managing well enough. Everyone claimed their little spot and no one seems stressed. I'm still going to add quite a few fish so we'll see once there are more in there. But so far I love this rock and I feel so lucky to have found it at a reasonable price. The detox blox are pretty cool too.

Saw this tank in person, Everything looks good Omar. be careful with removing phosphates too fast. You could kill your sps fast that way.

Thanks Steve. Once the HA is gone I'll be much happier and more willing to show it off. I started with 50 grams for estimated water volume of 130 gallons; the directions say 1gram per gallon so I think I did start off pretty conservatively. I'll test tonight to see how much phosphates I have. If it's .05 I'll stick to 50 grams. If more then I'll likely increase to 75 grams. And so on.

Does this seem like a sound approach? It seems like you saw something that triggered the warning...what did you see? This is still really only my second tank so I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Lol, I watched it afterwards and was hoping no one would notice. I'm a fat man and can breathe heavy sometimes alright?! Actually I was so excited by what I was seeing and really concentrating on getting a good shot that I was like inches away from the phone when I took the video. I gotta find a way to post to Youtube from my phone but add a soundtrack...all my videos either have me breathing like I have my pants down or my kids screaming in the background.

I bought it "used" from Riblet. Actually I think one of them had never touched water. But it's 4 individual pieces that he had used on his tanks, or planned to, that I jumped on as soon as he posted them. I don't know how much they are new but they're awesome and I'd buy them new if I setup another tank.
