Hey guys,

So MD has their standard refractometer on sale today for $39, their Pro version retails for $69.

Standard version

Pro version

My question is, they also sell a Pro version, which states it is better suited for Sea Water as the standard refractometers in the hobby are more for 'brine' water. Since I am new to the reef side of the hobby, is there a need for the Pro model, or will the standard one be sufficient?

Thank you,

Mike

If u plan on spending 1000s of dollars on corals in the future, then spend the extra $30 and get the Pro version. If ur planning to keep a simple fish only tank, with maybe soft corals and ur on a budget... then get the standard.

Okay, I understand. I originally had on my 'to buy' list the Pro version, but the sale made me reconsider. I think I will just stick with the Pro as I do plan on being in the reef side of the hobby for many years to come. This is just my first tank!!! :) Appreciate the feedback!
