So my sump doesn't have a fuge section. I was thinking of having a tray built and then building a little egg crate wall area where I can put either miracle mud/ or sand and Chaeto.

Will Chaeto by itself be fine or should I do the tray idea. I attached a picture of the tray I'm thinking of. Any thoughts would be awesome. maxresdefault.jpg

If you have the space under your stand, I would just get a 10-20g tank and elevated on top of your current sump. Drill a hole for the drain on the side, then Tee off your DT drain to feed the new setup.

Yeah you can partition a 'fuge in your sump, more difficult since you have water, etc. already there but I've seen it done. I have a 60 gallon 'fuge for my 188 DT. I started it off with Miracle Mud two years ago and its doing well. I later added biopure blocks. Lots of life in there and I never clean it just let it be the recycle center for good bacteria and whatever else overflows.

I would also not use the mud and just go with a Marco algae of your choice. You should also look at the different algae scrubber choices. You can probably find something that will fit your needs
