If you are not using clamps to secure the ends of the tube to the Remora and/or pump, it could be weakening the flow. I had this issue but it was after about 4 months of use. Hoses get more rigid and pump vibration causes issues. I would clean the maxi and secure the tube ends with clamps. Skimmers are simple mechanisms, so it has to be with the pump or connections. Possible set screw at the top of the inlet but unlikely. Good luck.

Its odd for me though, because mine is hanging in the back of my JBJ nano, so even if the outlet was producing bubbles, it still has to go through the main return pump at the very bottom of the tank where there are no bubbles.
